Columbus Day Weekend

Ahh, three day weekends. I love them!

Columbus Day is, obviously, right around my birthday each year, so it’s always nice to enjoy a long weekend.  Usually, we try to get away for a little while.  Last year, we went to Montreal to celebrate.

We stayed at Hotel Place d’Armes, a boutique hotel in Old Montreal.

We rented bikes and biked along the 10-mile Lachine Canal bike path.

We saw the gorgeous Chinese lanterns at the Festival of Lights at the Botanical Gardens.

But this year, we’re saving up for a few bigger things (new car, bigger down payment on our “forever” house), so we decided to stay home and save the money.  Instead, my inlaws came up to celebrate my birthday yesterday, and my parents came up today!

For dinner, we went out to Koto Japanese Steak House for sushi!  K and I split this sushi boat.

And we got our picture taken by the staff (after they all embarrassingly sang me Happy Birthday punctuated with a gong).

It was all SO good.

Then today, my parents came and we went to Thacher Park.

Fall colors in the northeast are beautiful.  These are actually quite a bit more muted than most Falls.

My parents, looking over the edge.  It is sort of scary, quite a drop right over the edge!

Beautiful view of the escarpment.

Down below.

You can see all the way to both Massachusetts AND Vermont!

Hey, I can see work from here!  (the four shorter towers and the big office building in the distance.) Also known as the State Capitol. 🙂

  1. Looks like you had a trip even though you stayed home. Glad your birthday was awesome! And that sushi boat is making me jealous 🙂
